The Image ( Design Jump off )

Ever looked at an image, fell in love with it, and thought to yourself, how could I use this in a space?

While browsing around on http://olioboard.com/ I came across some images from a product set,  which I just loved! I used the colours and feel of these images to translate groupings of furniture to best reflect the vibe each image evoked for me. This is one of my favourite ways to approach the creating of a space with a real storyline. I love the way a single image could be powerful enough to be the jump off for an entire space. I truly believe inspiration can come from anywhere and anything, this is just one of the many ways to make a connection to something far bigger than meets the eye.

Man meets Office

So as it is Fathers Day,  I have created a few idea boards for the gents using Olioboard. I wanted to showcase the different types of men with a coodinating office space. So many dads spend their days in them, working on numbers, signing papers and making world changing decisions.

I believe the office area should, whenever possible,  be reflective of those who use the space. These boards I have worked on, are just a few ways of bring together the man in the suit with his surroundings. To keep the feel masculine, I choose more chunky furniture pieces and muted tones.

Whatever kind of man your dad is,  here are some ideas of making him feel at home in his work setting.

Hope you had fun checking out my mood boards, I had a blast working on them! Maybe today when you are planning your Fathers Day events, you could look to one of them for inspiration. Be creative with your day and may this be one of the best days yet with Dad!

Thanks for the visit!

MoodBoard Monday with Olioboard

This has been one of the most exciting week for me on twitter. Its been all about connecting with great designers as we warmed up for Olioboard's first Monday Moodboard blog hop! This is blog hop is to be about the design of a nursey or a child's room using all the tools offered on Olioboard. I have been using Olioboard for months now, and absolutely love everything about the site. It has to be one of the easiest ways to quickly put together a moodboard.  The best part is you can purchase all the items you used to create your board right there online, with just a click.

Today I want to share with you a child's room I created on the site. I was inspired by my seven year old daughter who has now become a big fan of Olioboard also. She is crazy and about butterflies and  loves the colour green. We have worked on other children room designs together, which made for some great bonding time. Our children always seem to want to know what we are up, so why not show them by letting them sit and learn with you.

Let your board by inspired by nature

When starting out with your board, think of the colours, textures and overall feel you want to create. I find looking to nature maybe one of the best places to find inspiration.

There are so many ways to put your board together, here two ways I used to get an effect of a soft, yet very playful toddler room.

The Butterfly Princess #1:   http://olioboard.com/boards/110074-the-butterfly-princess-1

This style of moodboard allows you to quickly place your items on to your board. Which is a really great way to see if your choices work well together.  It also enables you to see these items in any given interior space.

The Butterfly Princess #2

With a huge variety of pre-loaded rooms and backgrounds to chose from,  you are able to place all your selected items in to any room setting. You can even use your own uploaded room photo. This way you can see how a room development will turn out before even spending a penny. If you love the way it turns out, you can easily shop it on-line and call it a day!

If only we could keep all the pretty little butterflies that have caught our eyes.....
As you know they are far better free. So let them fly as they live on in the bedrooms of little girls all over the world.
I must say, creating this room design was a bit of a sweet escape. Playing with some of your childhood faves all over again. I use the same colours found is the inspiration photo above. When creating a litte girls room, play is word. I wanted to break up the usual pink and white by bring in some green. The room then becomes a more colorful and far more visually interesting to look at. Childen love to create use a wide varity of mediums and colours so its important we give them a great starting point. Their bedrooms are often their little space to work of their arts and craft. So give them play the next time you get chance to work on one of these fun designs!

Summertime,Party Time!

Sometimes the best part of summer is finding yourself throwing or attending a really great dinner party. It seems as the weather warms up, so does the creative minds of our friends. The ideas are endless on ways to keep your guest entertained and visually pleased. The key is to pulling of a really fun and memorable event is, with your party planning, be open to doing something new. Your guest will love the fact that you toke the time to prepare a place with food and a vibe for all around good times!

Tropical Jump off

Here is where you get to bring on the sun! Colours - go bright, using reds, yellows, greens, and lots of white. You really want the place to feel a fresh lively!

Party Seaside Style

Its all about the elements of sea! Colours - Blues, whites and silver. Think of sitting on the beach, and all the elements you love. Now let them be reflect through your party decor. Corals, seashells and sand can used serveral different ways to instantly transform your table into the good life at see.

Summer Twister

Think fresh, super fun, and light dining! Colours - Reds, blues, greens and yellow. Break out the brights and patterned goodies for this one. When I think of the kind of party I think of those ones that last way into the early morning of the next day.

Spanish style, Mediterranean Flare

Spice up your life and let the fun begin! Colours - Green, white, yellow, and all the warm tones you can find. Focused and bringing together hot and spicy with flavoured delights this gathering is sure to be a hit. Keep the decor light and minimal letting the food be the star of this show.

I will attending a family BBQ today. I can not wait to see what they will bring to the table.
Do you have any summer party idea you would like to share? Would love to hear from you!

Have a great long Weekend!

On the Waves of Design

The sites, sounds and smells of the sea always bring me back to my place of birth. I grew up only minutes away from the shores in Jamaica. As a child I fell in love with the power and beauty of the sea . From the soft calming colours to the magnitude of its waves, I knew these waters would always have a hold on me.
This season, so much of the summer styles come up from sea. They have made their way into our homes and runways. Whether its seashells spread across a table, or corals preached on book shelves, almost everywhere you look are splashes of the seaside living.
To play with these colours and create that cottage beach vibe, keep it light, clean and simple. Enjoy the summer, take a walk on the beach inside your own home. Its all about using your imagination and soaking up the vibes!

THE FASHION TRANSITION

Just in case I haven’t told you yet, I love Olioboard!! Its my place where I can get my some of my design ideas together in minutes.
So on these boards I worked on creating the transition from fashion pieces into decor. I often find my inspirations from the fashion that I love,  or want to create. Sometimes you just  fall in love with a particular garment and just wish you could  have the some feeling created within your space. Its really a case of “I cant get enough”
