Black,White, Elegance

Whenever I think of timeless elegance in design I often see it in "black and white"  It is one of my favourite combos, both in interior and fashion design. Make no mistake though,  I am a girl full of colourful eyes, however my head always seems to turn at a well designed black and white number. These looks offer up touches of drama and are great for making a bold design statement. Another thing I love to see is, the introduction of just the right shade of  red or pink added to let in a little play of colour.

A couple of days ago I showed you some great ways Christin Dior was using the black and white combo to just light up the runways for their resort 2013 collection. Today I wanted to show you just how well the look works when brought into the home. These photos beautifully capture all the elements I love!

A diy storage solution can be a really great way to bring your creative side out without spending a ton. Its also a great time to take a look around at items that may have lost their appeal and give them new life!

Dior Dreaming

Much like a dream full of the most beautiful colours, shapes and textures, so is the Christian Dior resort 2013 collection. I'm most moved by the unique cuts in styles paired with just the right fabrics and patterns. This collection has truly awoken my creative soul as I begin to think of the translation from the runway into our interiors, imagine the possibilities!

Black and White Perfection

I love the use of black and white just about anywhere. Maybe its the classic note that it evokes or its strong beauty. With Dior it's easy to see the execution of
well thought out ways to bring black and white together seamlessly.

 Brights of Beauty

Effortlessly these looks of colour make a bold statement. With such an array of design selection Dior's Resort 2013 absolutely a joy to look at. When I see these colours I feel a sense of jubilee, they hint that great things are on the way in the world of design!

Vintage Euro

Ever walked into a place and thought, this is it! That was the feeling that greeted me when I first stepped into this neighbourhood gem. My eyes were instantly filled with touches of vintage goodies mixed with the warm welcoming elements of nature. As I made my way around on beautiful hard wood floors, I could see a little something for the home, the garden, body and the cutest selection of children's wear and accessories.

Meet the owner of Rizo Lola & Company!

Victoria, a seasoned entrepreneur, wife and mother to two. With an incredible sense of style she makes no mistake in giving every corner of her store that signature look. Her great decorating styles also placed her home as a feature in Style at Home magazine http://www.styleathome.com/ Before embarking on life as a business owner, she spent time working as a makeup artist  for film productions. Driven by a passionate for vintage European styles, Victoria knew just where she wanted her next career move to take her. This move landed her where she happily sits today, surrounded by the charms of her earlier life in Europe.

The store locted in Etobicoke ON, has been in business for over six years and appeals to a wide range of customers. I asked Victoria, "what was most important to her when it comes to her clients"  and with a smiling face she replied`` I want them to feel warmth, comfort and relaxation whenever they enter the store." With that being said, she spares no creative measures to bring that vibe into the environment. Taking strong pride in what makes her clients visit one to remember, she makes it a point to keep the store filled with new merchandise, allowing for each visit to be a fresh and new shopping experience.

Glass Touches of Decor

The charm of Children

Picture it, cuddle it, give it to baby- This was such a sweet spot in the store!

Today I end this post with happy thoughts of the next time I will make my way back to the little charm of Europe!www.rizololaandcompany.com/ Not only do I love the products here, the customer service is fantastic! Thank you so very much Victoria and Linda for all your time!!

Pillow Talk

So after crashing on my living room sofa last night, head nestled in one of my favourite pillows, I began thinking about what is it that makes a really great pillow. Aside from being super comfy, their one of my favourite ways to introduce personality into your environment. Being that they come in so many varying styles, sizes, and prices, they make for a great opportunity to play with textures and patterns- some you may have otherwise shy away from. I personally just like checking them out whenever I enter someones home, it's my quick peek of into their style, reflected into their decor. While this is not always an accurate take of any of our styles, its still fun to trying to match personalities to interior styles.

As an accessory,  pillows work amazingly well for pulling together a rooms decor. They can also act as your starting point for paint selection, fabrics, rugs an even furniture. No matter what or why you have made your pillow choices, one thing is for sure, we all us love them!

Pinned Image
Keeping it cool, fun, and ever so chic! I love the use of the blue pillow against the white sofa. This space is instantly filled with interesting textures and colours!

Pinned Image
Easy and pretty is evoked when looking at these floral prints. I most love how well the art work  and wall colours are reflected in each pillow. What a great why to showcase harmony!

Pinned Image
Structured meets soft with with this mix of pillows. Love the unexpected combo! Such a strong geometric pattern in this space full of chinoiserie. Tons of visual interest!

Pinned Image
Bright, bold patterns make for the a little drama! I just think these pillows are great! They the light is this otherwise muted environment. Amazing what a little red will do!
Readers, its been lovely sharing a little pillow talk with you.

Moodboard Monday (Olioboard Bloghop #2)

Declutter, Organize, New Beginnings!!

The topic of de-cluttering and organizing can be a bit daunting for many. The approach to a place of chaotic comfort,  may require one to truly look inside themselves or even re-evaluate their lifestyle. This maybe a call for some emotional readiness and most certainly some physical labour.

I like to look at it as a way of  clearing the path to your happy.
Being weighted down with a world full of things can feel it like a real state of sad.

To make this process a bit easier, here a few ways to de-clutter your space and in turn, organize your life.

1. The Office Clutter

Using the this image along with the tools at http://olioboard.com/.  I have created a space similar to this one, showing how to work with storage and create a more useful workspace.

This office space is clearly over stuffed with items which have no home. They are thrown all over the place, making it easy to see there is lack of storage.  and very little work space .

Work it-De-cluttered: http://olioboard.com/boards/116263-work-it-de-cluttered

In the new workspace there is storage for loose papers, books, and the many other items that come along with an office space. I have also created a separate sitting area as well, this will allow for a multi-functional office.  When de-cluttering, it is not so much about replacing all  of your old items, but rather to re-purpose and re-position them.

The Closet Overload

Pinned Image The best part about a closet declutter  are all the great finds you will rediscover. A clean,  well organized closet can truly be life chaining. How great would it be, if we were able to look into our closet and see it as a real refection of our style.

Now that you have de-cluttered your wardrobe, it time to give your closet a whole new look! Be creative with your storage selection. Remember the items in this closet represent your style, so why not have them placed wthin surroundings that do the same.  The use these small suitcases help to bring on a real vintage vibe. While the use of a rolling rack as shoe storage lends it self to a cool industrial look.

Laundry Disorder

Pinned ImageWe all have to do it at some point in week. So the laundry room can easily became a messy zone without organized maintance. The the idea of knowing where everything is when your on the go is a definate time saver.
Ordered Laundry

With these fun super stylish storage boxes and baskets,  laundry can now become a much more manageable task. When things are organized getting the whole family involved is a lot easier, now thats a bonus!

My four take away Tips :

De-clutter: Take time to go through all your items. Keep only that which you truly need and not so much what you want.

Detach: Allow yourself to break free from the things which you posses. There is a far greater feeling awaiting you upon its release.

Donate: There are always those in need among us. Find out where your nearest thrift or charity is and drop your goods off. Someones world will be greatly impacted by your giving.

Renew:  Now that you have gone through the clearing of your path,  be filled with a new energy and allow it to brought into the other areas of your life.

So the next time you are getting ready to give your space and life a little de-cluttering and reorganizing: Try uploading your photos to http://olioboard.com/.  and playing with the placement of some of the items you may want to use. You may also want to start all over be creating a new look. Whenever you get around it, keep in mind there is nothing more freeing than to be surround my ordered beauty. You may surprise yourself just how great you feel!
